Sierra Leone has actually reported cases of Mpox, also known as monkeypox, in the past. According to reports, the country had its first reported case of monkeypox in 1970, and then another case was reported in 2014 after a 44-year absence of the disease ยน. More recently, in 2017, an isolated case of monkeypox was confirmed in Pujehun district, Sierra Leone. 

The patient, a 35-year-old male, was admitted to a hospital and underwent supportive treatment. Active surveillance was instituted in the affected community, and no new cases were identified at the time. The Ministry of Health and Sanitation in Sierra Leone, along with support from WHO and other partners, continues to monitor the situation and promote preventive measures, such as avoiding bushmeat and practicing good hand-washing hygiene.
