Poor Welfare Conditions Chasing Young Vibrant Nigerians From Lecturing, ASUU Tells Tinubu
The union criticized the 2025 budget allocation of 7% (N3.52 trillion) to education, warning that this insufficient funding will perpetuate the stagnation of Nigeria's education system. Akinwole highlighted the consequences of poor welfare conditions, including the reluctance of qualified teachers to take up jobs in public primary and secondary schools, leading to a proliferation of private schools that are often unaffordable for the poor.
ASUU urged President Tinubu to prioritize the welfare of workers in the education sector, emphasizing the need to address pending issues, including the payment of withheld salaries and Earned Academic Allowances (EAA). The union warned that failure to address these concerns may lead to another round of avoidable crisis in the university system.
