Petrol price hike: Queues resurface at filling stations

The recent hike in petrol prices has led to the resurgence of queues at filling stations across the country, leaving motorists frustrated and stranded. The price of petrol has risen to between N1,050 and N1,150 per liter, depending on the area of purchase, due to the hike in the cost of the commodity by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and various depot owners.

Many filling stations in Lagos, Ogun, Abuja, and Port Harcourt were closed on Saturday, as dealers explained that they were monitoring developments to make adequate price adjustments. The few filling stations that were open had long queues of motorists, with some selling petrol at prices above N1,000 per liter.

The NNPC stations were selling at N965 per liter, while other stations like Total and Eterna were selling above N1,000 per liter. Motorists were seen waiting in line for hours, hoping to get a chance to buy fuel at the subsidized price.

The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has attributed the increase in PMS prices to the rise in the cost of crude oil in the international market. "We are not to be blamed for the hike in pump prices," said a PETROAN official. "We are simply responding to changes in the cost of crude oil. The government needs to do something to address this issue and ensure that fuel is available and affordable for everyone."

The resurgence of queues at filling stations has brought back memories of the fuel scarcity that plagued the country in recent years. Motorists are calling on the government to take urgent action to address the issue and ensure that fuel is available and affordable for everyone.

"It's frustrating and annoying," said a motorist who waited in line for hours to buy fuel. "I don't know how much more of this we can take. The government needs to do something to address this issue once and for all."

The government has yet to comment on the issue, but it's clear that something needs to be done to address the fuel scarcity and price hike. The country's economy is already struggling, and the fuel scarcity is only making things worse.
