Nutritionists reveal foods Nigerians should avoid in 2025
According to the nutritionists, some of Nigeria's favorite dishes and drinks can exacerbate ulcer symptoms and hinder the healing process.
"Pepper soup, for instance, is a big no-no for ulcer patients," said Dr. Ngozi Okoro, a leading nutritionist in Lagos. "The high pepper and spice content can irritate the stomach lining, making symptoms worse."
Other foods to avoid include beans, tomato-based foods, fried and fatty foods, oil-heavy Nigerian soups, and processed meats.
"Tomatoes are acidic and can trigger acid reflux, while beans can cause bloating and discomfort," said Dr. Okoro. "Fried foods, on the other hand, can delay stomach emptying and increase acid production."
The nutritionists also warned against consuming alcohol, coffee, soda, and citrus fruits like oranges, as they can irritate the stomach lining and worsen ulcer symptoms.
"While these foods may be delicious and convenient, they can have serious consequences for our health," said Dr. Okoro. "It's time for Nigerians to rethink their eating habits and prioritize healthy, balanced diets."
The warning comes as Nigeria continues to grapple with high rates of ulcer cases, with many patients experiencing severe symptoms and complications.
By avoiding these trigger foods and adopting healthier eating habits, Nigerians can reduce their risk of developing ulcers and promote overall well-being.
