The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has finally announced the new head coach of the Super Eagles, and it's Éric Sékou Chelle, a former Mali national team coach. Chelle's appointment was endorsed by the NFF's Executive Committee, following a recommendation from the Technical and Development Sub-committee. He'll be taking over from caretaker coach Austin Eguavoen, who had been in charge since Finidi George's resignation in June 2024.

Chelle has an impressive record, having led Mali to the quarterfinals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. He's also had stints as head coach of several clubs, including FC Martigues and GS Consolat. The NFF is hoping that Chelle's experience and tactical acumen will help the Super Eagles qualify for the 2026 World Cup, as well as improve their performance in upcoming tournaments.

Chelle's first assignment will be to manage the home-based Super Eagles at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in East Africa, which kicks off on February 1. The NFF is confident that Chelle will be able to identify and develop talented players from the domestic league, and integrate them into the senior national team.

Overall, it's an exciting time for Nigerian football, and fans will be eager to see how Chelle performs in his new role. ¹
