The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has taken a proactive stance on the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) situation, classifying the risk in Nigeria as moderate. This assessment was made in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and partners like the World Health Organization (WHO), the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (USCDC), and the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). The NCDC is working to strengthen the country's preparedness and response capacity, and has enhanced surveillance efforts nationwide to detect any unusual increase in respiratory infections.

The NCDC has also issued a public health advisory to raise awareness and promote preventive measures, such as frequent hand washing, proper respiratory etiquette, and avoiding close contact with people who are sick. The agency has also activated its Emergency Operations Centre to coordinate the response to the HMPV situation.

It's worth noting that HMPV is a known virus that can cause severe illness in vulnerable groups, such as young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems. However, the NCDC has reassured the public that the risk of HMPV in Nigeria is moderate, and that the agency is taking all necessary steps to prevent and respond to any potential outbreak.
