NATCOMS is really going after the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for considering a 40% telecoms tariff hike, calling it "insensitive" and unfair to consumers. They're arguing that this increase would make telecom services unaffordable for many Nigerians, who are already struggling with the high cost of living.

The proposed hike would see call rates jump from ₦11.00 to ₦15.40 per minute, text messages rise from ₦4.00 to ₦5.60, and 1GB of data go from ₦1,000 to ₦1,400. NATCOMS thinks this move is a complete negation of the NCC's duty to protect consumers' interests. They're suggesting alternative solutions, like listing on the Nigerian Stock Exchange, so telcos can raise funds without burdening customers.

It's worth noting that the NCC hasn't officially approved the new tariffs yet, according to telecom operators. Meanwhile, NATCOMS has even proposed a 10% tariff increase as a more reasonable alternative. The whole situation is pretty contentious, with telcos arguing that the hike is overdue due to inflation and other financial burdens.
