Max Air flights suspended for three months after aircraft incident

Max Air has suspended its domestic flight operations for three months, starting from January 31, 2025, following an incident involving one of its Boeing 737-400 aircraft at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport. The aircraft suffered a tyre burst upon landing, but fortunately, all 59 occupants were safely evacuated without injuries. 

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has launched an investigation into the incident and will conduct a thorough safety and economic audit of Max Air during the suspension period. The audit will focus on re-inspecting Max Air's organizational structure, procedures, personnel, and aircraft, as well as examining its financial health to ensure its ability to sustain safe flight operations.

The suspension has sparked mixed reactions, with some praising the NCAA's proactive approach to ensuring safety, while others criticize the move as an overreaction. Some have also raised concerns about the potential impact on the Nigerian airline industry, citing the need for a more balanced approach to addressing safety concerns. The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has also initiated an investigation into the occurrence, and the cause of the incident is yet to be determined.
