Lagos set to receive six new trains from China to enhance Blue and Red Line operations
Lagos is set to receive six new trains from China to boost the operations of the Blue and Red Lines. These trains have already passed the factory acceptance tests and are scheduled for shipment to Lagos.
The new trains will increase the capacity of the Blue Line, allowing for more trips and faster service. They'll also be deployed for passenger operations to Okokomaiko once the second phase of the Blue Line is completed, which is expected to happen within the first quarter of 2027.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced the development, stating that the new trains will transform commuting in Lagos and drive economic growth across the state. The governor had visited Beijing and Dalian in February 2024, where he placed orders for the trains.
The addition of these new trains is expected to enhance the overall efficiency of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit system, making it easier for residents to commute around the city.
