Kia Recalls 80K Niros over Airbags, Seatbelts That Might Not Work
Kia is recalling a whopping 80,255 Niro SUVs from 2023 to 2025 in the US due to some pretty serious airbag and seatbelt issues. Apparently, the floor wiring assembly beneath the front passenger seat can get damaged over time, which might prevent the front airbags and seatbelts from working properly in a collision. To make matters worse, it could also cause the side-curtain airbags to deploy unexpectedly. Luckily, Kia hasn't reported any injuries related to this defect yet.
The recall affects the Kia Niro, Niro EV, and Niro Plug-in Hybrid models, and owners can expect to receive notification letters by March 14, 2025. Kia dealers will then inspect, replace, and reroute the affected wiring assembly for free, and they'll also install protective wiring covers to prevent any further damage.
It's great that Kia is taking proactive steps to address this issue, and owners can reach out to the company's customer service for more information.
