Kano gov unveils Sharia, Zakkat commissions

Kano, Nigeria - In a significant move to promote Islamic governance and social welfare in the state, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has inaugurated the Sharia Commission and Zakkat and Hubusi Commission. The inauguration ceremony, which took place at the Government House in Kano, marked a major milestone in the state's efforts to strengthen its Islamic institutions and improve the lives of its citizens.

Governor Yusuf, in his remarks at the ceremony, emphasized Kano's influential status in the Islamic world, citing its large number of renowned scholars, Islamiyya schools, and Islamic study centers. He noted that the commissions were established to promote unity among Muslim faithful across different sects, enhance peace, stability, and socioeconomic development in the state.

The Sharia Commission, which is tasked with fostering unity among Muslim faithful, is composed of notable individuals with expertise in Islamic law and governance. The commission's chairman, Sheikh Abbas Abubakar Daneji, is a renowned Islamic scholar and jurist. The permanent commissioners, Malam Yahaya Gwani Hadi and Sheikh Ali Dan Abba, are also respected scholars and experts in Islamic law.

The Zakkat and Hubusi Commission, which is responsible for collecting alms (Zakkat) from wealthy individuals to support the less privileged, is also composed of notable individuals with expertise in Islamic finance and social welfare. The commission's chairman, Barrister Habibu Dan Almajiri, is a respected lawyer and Islamic finance expert. The permanent commissioners, Sheikh Nafi’u Umar Harazimi and Dr. Ali Quraish, are also experts in Islamic finance and social welfare.

Governor Yusuf charged the commissions to work tirelessly to promote Islamic governance and social welfare in the state. He assured them of his administration's full support and cooperation in their efforts to strengthen Islamic institutions and improve the lives of Kano State citizens.
