FRSC to enforce speed limit devices, passenger manifests from March 1 in Anambra State
According to the Anambra Sector Commander, Joyce Alexander, the move is aimed at reducing road traffic crashes and saving lives in the state. Alexander noted that the FRSC has observed a low level of compliance among motorists, especially fleet operators, regarding the installation of speed limit devices and the use of passenger manifests.
"Some drivers have even been found tampering with the speed limit devices to avoid detection," Alexander said. "This is unacceptable and poses a significant risk to the safety of passengers and other road users."
To ensure compliance, the FRSC will conduct special intervention patrols, stopping and checking vehicles to verify the use of speed limit devices and passenger manifests. Drivers and fleet operators found non-compliant will face arrest and have their vehicles impounded.
The FRSC is urging drivers to ensure that all passengers fill in their correct details in the manifest, including their blood group, to facilitate timely identification and medical attention in case of an accident.
"We are committed to reducing road crashes and saving lives in Anambra State," Alexander said. "We urge all motorists to cooperate with us and ensure that they comply with the regulations."
The enforcement of speed limit devices and passenger manifests is part of the FRSC's efforts to improve road safety in Nigeria. The corps has been working to reduce road crashes through education, enforcement, and engineering.
