FG Launches Youth Farmers Enrollment Portal to Address Unemployment, Food Insecurity
The portal, which is part of the Nigerian Youth Economic Engagement De-Radicalisation programme, aims to engage young Nigerians in agricultural activities, promoting economic development and self-sufficiency.
Speaking at the launch, the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, emphasized the importance of the initiative in creating economic opportunities for young Nigerians.
"This portal is a strategic initiative designed to align young Nigerians with the economic agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration," Olawande said. "We aim to generate 6 million direct jobs for youth in 2025 across agriculture, food, and beverage, and agro-allied sectors."
The Youth Farmers Enrollment Portal is open to Nigerians aged 18 to 35 and offers a range of resources, including agricultural training programs, modern farming techniques, mentorship opportunities, and financial support.
The government has also partnered with private sector organizations to provide funding and technical support to young farmers.
The launch of the portal is a significant step towards addressing the pressing issues of unemployment and food insecurity in Nigeria.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the unemployment rate in Nigeria stood at 33.3% in the fourth quarter of 2022, with youth unemployment accounting for a significant proportion.
The portal can be accessed through the Ministry of Youth Development's website, and interested applicants are encouraged to register and take advantage of the opportunities offered.
With the launch of the Youth Farmers Enrollment Portal, the Federal Government has demonstrated its commitment to empowering young Nigerians and promoting economic development through agriculture.
