EFCC Blows Cover On Alleged Yahoo Academy In Benin, Arrests 25
According to a statement released by the EFCC, the suspects were arrested at a residential building in the Ugbiyoko area of Benin, where they were allegedly operating a Yahoo academy. The academy is said to be a training ground for young people to learn the skills of online fraud, including phishing, identity theft, and other forms of cybercrime.
The EFCC said that the suspects, who are mostly young men and women, were found in possession of various items, including laptops, mobile phones, and other devices used for online fraud. The commission also recovered several documents and materials, including fake identification cards, bank statements, and other incriminating evidence.
The EFCC's Benin Zonal Commander, Muhtar Bello, said that the operation was carried out based on intelligence gathered by the commission, which revealed that the suspects were involved in various forms of online fraud. He warned that the EFCC would continue to crack down on cybercrime and online fraud, and urged young people to desist from engaging in such activities.
The arrest of the 25 suspects brings the total number of people arrested by the EFCC for cybercrime and online fraud in the past few months to over 100. The commission has been working tirelessly to combat online fraud and cybercrime, which has become a major concern in Nigeria.
