Education system: JSS, SSS not scrapped — FG

The Nigerian Federal Government has debunked rumors that it plans to scrap the Junior Secondary School (JSS) and Senior Secondary School (SSS) programs. According to the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, the government is actually proposing a new policy to provide free and compulsory 12-year basic education to all citizens.

The proposed policy aims to improve access to education, enhance the quality of education, increase literacy rates, and reduce poverty and inequality. The government plans to engage education policymakers, state governments, teachers, and parents in extensive consultations over the next eight months before making a final decision.

It's worth noting that the current 6-3-3 structure of the education system will be maintained, but with some adjustments. For instance, the proposal suggests removing external examinations between JSS and SSS to ensure a smooth academic transition.
