The operatives of the Department of State Service, DSS, have arrested one Bashir Abubakar for disseminating information that tends to disrupt national peace.
Bashir was arrested in Kano for advertising T-shirts branded for the nationwide rally proposed to be held across Nigeria in August 2024.
Some youths have been mobilizing support and membership for nationwide protests across the 36 states of the federation. The protest allegedly aims against bad government.
The planned protest has, however, been identified as a means to make the country ungovernable, causing public unrest and invitation to the military government or anarchy. Hence, the government encouraged youths to stay clear of any protest that may throw the country into chaos.
The news of Bashir's arrest was broken by Omoyele Swore, an activist, who condemned the taken by the security agency.
Reacting to Kabir's arrest by the DSS, Sowore said: “The lawless @OfficialDSSNG has begun inciting the public to riot even before the D-Day, early this morning they arrested a young man Bashir Abubakar in Kano.
“His offense was that he advertised that he’s made T-shirts for the upcoming protests.
“Earlier another young activist was sent to prison in Kano for posting about the protest. The @OfficialDSSNG must release Abubakar immediately.”
Some religious clerics and sociocultural groups have raised voices against the planned protest encouraging youths to stay away from being used for heinous events against their country.
