Rauf Aregbesola, the former Minister of Interior, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, the ex-Governor of Kano State, recently met in Lagos to discuss strategies for the 2027 general election. This meeting has sparked rumors of a potential alliance between the two politicians, with some speculating that they might join forces to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Aregbesola's political group, Omoluabi Progressives, had recently left the APC due to alleged ostracization and suspension of leaders without fair hearing. The APC in Osun also expelled Aregbesola over alleged anti-party activities.

Kwankwaso, who was the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) in the 2023 elections, has been rumored to be in talks with other opposition parties to form a coalition for the 2027 elections. Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President, has also been mentioned as a potential partner in this alliance.

While the details of the meeting between Aregbesola and Kwankwaso are still unclear, it's evident that the 2027 elections are already shaping up to be a highly contested and potentially game-changing event in Nigerian politics.
