Ahmadu Bello Teaching Hospital to begin kidney transplant in 2025

Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) is set to commence kidney transplant surgeries in 2025. This move aims to bring relief to patients with kidney failure and reduce medical tourism.

The hospital's Urology Centre of Excellence is expected to be ready by the first quarter of 2025, offering high-quality urology services. According to Prof. Ahmed Umdagas, Chief Medical Director of the hospital, the necessary infrastructure, machines, and equipment for kidney transplants are already in place, and the personnel have been adequately trained.

This development is part of the hospital's efforts to enhance its services and reverse medical tourism. ABUTH has also established other facilities, including an Amenity Wing with single-bed rooms and rooms with parlors for affluent patients.
