AEDC announces planned blackout in Abuja, gives reason

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has announced a planned blackout in Abuja, citing a technical fault on some of its equipment as the reason. This isn't the first time AEDC has announced a planned blackout; in December 2024, the company notified customers of a maintenance exercise that would affect power supply in Abuja, Nasarawa state, and its environs.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) had also issued a disconnection notice to AEDC in July 2024 due to non-compliance with market rules, which could have resulted in a blackout. However, it's unclear if this notice is related to the current planned blackout.

AEDC has apologized for the inconvenience this will cause and assures customers that the maintenance exercise is essential to ensure better service delivery.
